First Timer Class

This two-hour private class teaches you the basics of glassblowing and working on the hot floor. You'll learn how to gather, heat, and shape molten glass into the basic form and colors of your choice. You choose from several different projects that we offer. We can work with your schedule. No previous experience required. 2 hour class: $150.00 per person. (Student paperweight pictured right).

Couples Class

Great for a first date, your weekly night-out with your best friend, or anywhere in between. You and your partner will be coached by a professional glassblower as you sculpt your own work of art from molten glass. You choose from several different projects that we offer. No previous experience required. 2 hour class: $250.00 per couple. (Make it a party with two classes working side-by-side!) (Jack-in-the-Pulpit student picture shown left).

Flamed

If you prefer to become a glass artist without the intense heat, lampworking (a.k.a. torch working) may be more to your liking. You and up to 2 other people can learn the basics of torch working and bead making. A professional glass artist will guide you through the process of sculpting glass and you will come away with a handful of beads you created! 2 hour class: $85.00 per person (Bead's taught in a lampworking class).

Fused

In this 2 hour workshop you will learn how to cut and design sheet glass. Using frit, shards, stringers and sheet glass, you will create you own fused platter, sun-catcher, jewelry pendants or earrings. 2 hour class: $85.00 per person. *For an additional $15.00 you may choose to have your fused platter slumped into the mold of your choice. Sculpture

Discover the incredible world of sculpting glass! Gather, mold, sculpt, pull, pinch, ply or caress your golden molten glass into a master piece. This class will not only teach you how to sculpt with class, it will also give you an amazing understanding on just how glass moves, gives you a better grasp on the control you have with you piece and allows you to have fine detail in your work. No previous experience required. 45 minute class: $140 per couple.

For the Serious Glassblowing Student

Uptown recommends private instruction to maximize hands-on bench time and accelerate your learning curve. The committed student will attend 5 weekly classes. The schedule is determined between student and instructor. All materials provided, and evenings are available. A second student may participate for an additional fee as shown below.

Level 1

Five 2-hour classes: $490.00; Second student: $245.00

Students will learn safety in the studio, the proper use of glass working tools, how to gather molten glass out of the furnace, and the basic techniques necessary to create simple blown forms. No experience required. First experience hot glass workshops suggested. Class may be used for college credits.

Level 2

Five 3-hour classes: $790.00; Second student: $395.00

This class develops fundamental glass blowing skills, including the application of color, the use of tools, working with a partner, and understanding the operation of specialized equipment. Level I or equivalent experience is suggested before taking this class but is not required unless this class is intended for college credits. Class may be used for college credit.

Level 3

Five 4-hour classes: $1200.00; Second student: $600.00

The instructor first demonstrates the variety of exciting effects possible in solid-sculpted molten glass, using a wide range of tools and techniques. Students then practice applying these skills to create work of their own design. Level II class or equivalent experience is suggested before taking this class but is not required unless this class is intended for college credits. Class may be used for college credit.
